Trump Plans Lawsuit Against Think Tank Over National Guard Study
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump says he plans to take legal action against a think tank after a report challenges his administration’s claims about the effectiveness of deploying the National Guard to several US cities to combat violent crime.
In a statement posted on his social media platform, Trump describes the report as a “Radical Left SCAM” and says: “This will be met with a lawsuit, which is being drawn now.” He previously made a similar threat on Aug. 17, roughly a month after the report was published.
“The report is just another Radical Left SCAM, as are the people who fund this gaggle of Lunatics, including George Soros, Bill and Melinda Gates, Google, Apple, Visa, Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, WellsFargo, Bank of America, Walmart, Toyota, T-Mobile, and NBC Universal,” he wrote.
Trump also says he is “strongly considering adding some of the contributors to this Fake Organization” to the lawsuit.
“Crime is way down since I took Office, and they know it,” Trump said, arguing that the “Liars … must be held accountable!”
The report, published on July 13, disputes the administration’s assertion that Trump’s policies are responsible for the historic decline in violent crime. It argues that the reduction was already underway before the current administration took office.
The analysis also concludes that Trump’s deployment of the National Guard “had no measurable impact on violent crime trends,” directly challenging the administration’s characterization of the deployments as an effective crime-fighting measure.
