Yemeni Forces Receive Surrender of Dozens of Houthi Fighters
(MENAFN) Dozens of Houthi fighters surrender to government forces in Yemen's northern Al-Jawf province as government troops carry out a military operation in the area, according to reports.
“Dozens of Houthi militia fighters surrendered themselves and their weapons to the armed forces in Al-Jawf (province),” officials said in an urgent statement, without disclosing the exact number of fighters involved.
The reported defections come as government forces launch an offensive in Al-Jawf and seize several positions while advancing toward the Al-Labanat camp.
Mansour al-Zaylai, a media official with the government’s First Emergency Division, said the forces “succeeded in securing the Upper Al-Labanat and Lower Al-Labanat areas."
Government troops also take control of key strategic locations in the province and continue moving toward Al-Labanat camp, according to reports.
Meanwhile, fighting is also reported in Taiz in southwestern Yemen. A military source says government forces target a large Houthi reinforcement convoy traveling toward the Al-Barh and Maqbanah front lines west of the city.
