What Happened At Hayatabad Nursing College? Health Department Orders Probe

(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) A three-member inquiry committee has been formed by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department to investigate the students' protest and police action at the Postgraduate College of Nursing in Hayatabad.

According to the Health Department, the committee will be headed by the Special Secretary Health, while the Director General of the Health Services Academy and the Director General Health Services will serve as members. The committee has been directed to complete the inquiry and submit its report within one day.

Meanwhile, Postgraduate College Hayatabad Principal Akhnoor Singh has presented the college administration's position on the students' protest in a video message.

According to the principal, serious complaints had been received against two students, and they were called before a committee for an inquiry. However, instead of appearing before the committee, the two students brought other students with them and went to the administration office to put pressure on the administration.

She said the students demanded that the inquiry committee be dissolved and the complaints against them be withdrawn. However, the administration instructed them that if they believed the allegations against them were false, they should appear before the committee and present their position, where they would be given a full opportunity to defend themselves.

According to the principal, the students later locked the gates of the college and hostel, surrounded the faculty, and allegedly used abusive language. Some other students were also allegedly brought into the protest.

She said the administration had summoned only two students for the inquiry and no action had been taken against the other students.

The principal said that due to the uncertain situation, the college administration sought police assistance. Police arrived at the scene and, acting on a written request from the administration, detained two students.

According to police, the two students were being taken to the police station when other students allegedly tried to stop the police and resist their action. As a result, around five students, along with some other nominated individuals, were taken to the police station. An FIR was registered against them and legal proceedings were initiated.

Police said the college administration would be provided with full cooperation and security.

According to the principal, the SHO was also allegedly misbehaved with during the protest, and an attempt was reportedly made to remove items from his uniform.

She further said that the college prospectus does not permit such protests, involving other groups, bringing in outsiders, or disrupting educational activities.
