Ukrainian Drone Operators Destroy Russian Osa Air Defense System On Zaporizhzhia Front

“The pilots of the 423rd Separate Regiment Scythian Griffins, hunted down another major target in the Zaporizhzhia sector. This time, it was an enemy Osa self-propelled surface-to-air missile system, valued at approximately $10 million,” the statement said.

The military noted that despite the system's Soviet origins, Russian forces continue to use it as part of their short-range air defense, where it poses a serious threat to Ukrainian reconnaissance and strike drones.

The Osa system is capable of engaging aerial targets at altitudes of up to 5 kilometers and at a range of approximately 10 kilometers.

The military noted that“unlike other systems, it is relatively compact and easy to conceal. Destroying such air defense systems opens the way for our aircraft and drones to reach the enemy's rear logistics.”

This is already the third Osa system destroyed by pilots from the 423rd Separate Unmanned Systems Regiment over the past year and a half.

As Ukrinform reported, members of the Lasar's Group unmanned aerial systems unit of the National Guard of Ukraine previously destroyed a rare Russian electronic warfare system, the R-330Zh Zhitel, deep behind enemy lines.
