Ukrinform To Present Victory Commanders At Lviv Book Forum

The book's subjects include current Head of the Office of the President Kyrylo Budanov, Deputy Head of the Office of the President Pavlo Palisa, commander of the“Bakhmut Ghosts” sniper platoon Oleksandr“Ghost,” Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense Oleh Ivashchenko, Commander of the National Guard Oleksandr Pivnenko, and former Commander of the Ukrainian Ground Forces Hennadii Shapovalov.

The book aims to preserve the firsthand accounts of Ukrainian military commanders who are directly involved in the Russo-Ukrainian war, make important decisions on the battlefield, and preserve their stories for future generations.

A distinctive feature of Victory Commanders is that the entire book-production process-from preparing and editing journalistic materials to design, layout, and prepress preparation-was carried out by the Ukrinform team. For the agency, this represents a new direction in working with its own journalistic content and preserving it in book form.

The publication includes original autographs from the project's subjects, along with handwritten quotations expressing their personal mottos. Another distinctive feature is a bookmark decorated with a spent cartridge case. It was made by Olha Konoval, a volunteer from Ternopil and the wife of fallen Hero of Ukraine Serhii Konoval.

The book is illustrated with unique photographs taken by Ukrinform correspondents, including photographs taken in Donetsk region and on the Zaporizhzhia front. One of the photographs taken by the agency's photojournalist, Dmytro Smolienko, featuring sunflowers, was included among Time magazine's 100 best photographs of 2025.

During the presentation, the agency's team will discuss the book's creation, from the initial concept and preparation of materials to design and printing. The discussion will also address the role of the media in documenting the Russo-Ukrainian war and preserving the testimonies of those directly involved.

One of the subjects of Victory Commanders, whose name has not yet been disclosed, will also attend the event.

The special guest at the presentation will be Taras Topolya, Honored Artist of Ukraine, serviceman, and frontman of the band Antytila, who will perform an acoustic set.

As previously reported by Ukrinform, the agency is publishing Victory Commander, which brings together more than 20 stories of Ukrainian commanders and their units. The book is based on interviews published by the agency over the course of a year.
