Weimar Triangle To Continue Firmly Supporting Ukraine

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) This was said in the Joint Statemen by the Weimar Triangle Foreign Ministers – Johann Wadephul of Germany, Jean-Noël Barrot of France and Radosław Sikorski of Poland – marking the 35th anniversary of the format. The declaration was published by the German Federal Foreign Office, according to Ukrinform.

“We are determined to bring about a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace for Ukraine that is in accordance with international law. We are prepared to contribute to robust and credible security guarantees for Ukraine, including within the framework of the Coalition of the Willing, and to strengthen Ukraine's capacity for effective deterrence and self-defense,” the Statement says.

The document notes that the three countries will continue supporting Ukraine for as long as necessary, including through military assistance, funding and donations of priority equipment, industrial procurement, research and development cooperation, joint production, strengthening Europe's defense industry to ensure rapid and long-term supplies, and financial support for Ukrainian defense production.

At the same time, the three countries stressed their readiness to further increase pressure on Russia's war economy through targeted and effective sanctions.

“We will continue to take action against Russia's revenues from the energy sector, the Russian shadow fleet, the Russian financial sector, and Russia's military-industrial complex,” the ministers said.

They noted that the Weimar Triangle plays an important role in organizing and consolidating sustained support for Ukraine's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders.

“We intend to rigorously pursue the opening of negotiating clusters and the merit-based enlargement process with Ukraine and Moldova,” the Statement emphasizes.

Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine has fundamentally changed the security landscape of the continent, the diplomats said, stressing the importance of strengthening their own security. In view of the long-term threat posed by Russia, the Weimar Triangle will continue addressing a broad range of Russian activities, including hybrid warfare.

The Statement says the Weimar Triangle expects a coordinated European response to Russia's cyberattacks against the EU and the interests of its member states.

“We will continue to develop robust countermeasures to protect and safeguard our citizens, our democratic institutions, and our critical systems from hybrid influence,” the Foreign Ministers said, noting that amid growing security challenges, Germany, France and Poland play a decisive role in strengthening European security.

“We are determined to further strengthen NATO's deterrence and defense posture. Recognizing the immediate threats on NATO's and the EU's eastern flank, we pledge to ensure the defense of all NATO and EU land, air, and sea borders. Europe must become more sovereign, take greater responsibility for its own defense, and be better equipped to act autonomously and in a coordinated manner, based on a 360-degree approach, and to respond to immediate and future challenges and threats,” the Ministers said.

They also stressed their support for developing a more resilient and competitive technological and industrial base for European defense, including through EU programs such as SAFE and EDIP, as well as within the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF).

As previously reported, Johann Wadephul, Jean-Noël Barrot and Radosław Sikorski met in Weimar on September 2–3.
