Kyiv Talks Lay Groundwork For Resuming Ukraine-Russia Negotiations Élysée Sources

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Sources at the Élysée Palace said this to an Ukrinform correspondent while summarizing the results of a meeting between representatives of France, the United Kingdom and Germany and their Ukrainian and U.S. counterparts.

“The main task has been accomplished today – the groundwork for this process has been laid. The Kremlin has not ruled out the possibility of new trilateral talks. That is a positive development, but now all of this needs to be consolidated,” the Élysée sources said.

They elaborated that the U.S. side had reported“Russia's renewed readiness to negotiate after the State Duma elections.”

As reported, representatives of France, the United Kingdom and Germany visited Kyiv in the E3 format at the invitation of the U.S. and Ukrainian sides.

“Essentially, this was the first time that the United States–Ukraine–Europe format – in this case, the E3 – was launched in this way to discuss the next steps,” the Élysée sources added.

“The E3's primary role was to demonstrate our commitment to ensuring that certain parameters of the negotiations are respected. You know what they are: territorial issues, sanctions, reparations and security guarantees for Ukraine, as well as other issues. Together with President Zelensky, we were able to discuss with the Ukrainian and U.S. sides the need to ensure that, if negotiations resume, they take place on a solid foundation and meet a number of our requirements, as well as those of Ukraine,” the Élysée sources said.

They explained that the next step would be to jointly create“the conditions for negotiations to resume properly and produce a concrete result.”

“We believe it is important to seize this opportunity. Everyone understands – and this is precisely what we heard during all our meetings in Ukraine – that the winter will be difficult. At the same time, Ukrainians are holding firm, and there is no scenario in which the Russians would manage to break through the front line,” the sources added.

As reported by Ukrinform, Ukraine, the United States and European partners agreed to hold joint talks in the near future on establishing a just peace.
