Ukrainian Ground Forces Launch Campaign To Recruit Women For USF
The large-scale campaign aims to highlight opportunities for women in modern, technology-driven military professions and promote the creation of mixed-gender and all-female crews in unmanned systems units.
“This is about and for women in unmanned systems, about the opportunities the military offers them today and the needs the military has. We launched this campaign, called 'A Common Cause,' six months ago, and during this time it has shown that technology-driven military professions are an area where women are already working, actively joining and can continue to develop,” said Tetiana Muraviova, Head of the Drone Force Center for Recruitment and Training of Unmanned Systems Specialists.
For the Ground Forces, one of the priority tasks in the unmanned systems sector is developing the mid-strike capability – attacks by unmanned systems at a range of 100–600 kilometers. Women recruited to the units will operate drones of this type.
“Today, we can speak of a very positive trend – women continue to join actively. Working with mid-strike systems requires team coordination and rapid deployment. Mid-strike pilots often operate at a safe distance from the line of contact, sometimes 40–50 kilometers from the frontline. This requires strong engineering skills and adaptability, so we are talking about professionalism without a gender bias,” said Ihor Torokhtii, a representative of the Unmanned Systems Directorate of the Ukrainian Ground Forces Command.
The campaign's central figure is Princess Olha, a historical figure associated with strategic thinking, determination and the ability to change the course of events. In the modern interpretation, the“new Olha” is a woman who does not simply watch the future unfold but shapes it through technology. The image of Princess Olha in the campaign is portrayed by Ukrainian Honored Artist Irma Vitovska.
“We are fighting a war on three fronts – for the future, the present and the past. This is because Russians use mythmaking to cement and mobilize their younger generation. It is important for us to win this battle over the past, which is now being fought not so much by the military as by culture. Princess Olha is the second great woman in our strong female heritage after Anna of Kyiv. It is an extraordinary honor for me to portray Olha,” Vitovska said.

As reported by Ukrinform, around 6,000 people have joined the Ukrainian military through the Navy recruitment center in Odesa over the past three years.
