World Bank Report Shows Jordan Exceeding 2029 Targets In Social Protection Project

Amman, Sep. 7 (Petra) -- Jordan has made significant progress in implementing the Resilient and Sustainable Social Protection Program (RSSP), exceeding its 2029 targets across several performance indicators, particularly in non-cash social services, productive inclusion, and the professionalization of social work, according to a recent World Bank implementation report.

As of June 2026, the number of individuals benefiting from at least one non-cash social service reached 59,007, surpassing the project's final target of 20,000 beneficiaries set for March 2029. Female beneficiaries in this category reached 33,797 against a final target of 10,000, while youth beneficiaries totaled 41,014, exceeding the end target of 20,000.

In productive inclusion, participants in training, employment, and economic empowerment initiatives rose to 3,071, outpacing the final target of 2,000. Female participants reached 1,359, surpassing the target of 500.

Progress was also noted in professionalizing social work, with 1,296 social work specialists certified and licensed as of June, surpassing the program's target of 1,000. The World Bank indicated that the project team plans to revise these targets upward during the upcoming midterm review to reflect the accelerated progress.

In cash assistance programs, total beneficiaries across all interventions reached approximately 950,000, toward a final goal of 1.2 million by 2029. The National Aid Fund's Unified Cash Transfer Program covered 210,837 families as of June 2026.

Regarding the Jordan Social Register, six services have been integrated to date, with the program aiming to expand integration to 12 services and cover 75% of the kingdom's population by project completion.

Disbursements for the $400 million RSSP, project number (P508708), have reached $151.2 million, or 37.8% of total funding. The initiative aims to strengthen the shock-responsiveness, efficiency, and sustainability of Jordan's social protection system for poor and vulnerable households.
