Jordan Advances To U20 Asian Cup
Jordan lost to Tajikistan 1-0 in their last match to drop to second on goal difference after they were atop the group following two wins, 1-0 over Afghanistan and 2-1 over hosts Bahrain. Tajikistan topped the group after an earlier 4-1 win over Afghanistan and 3-2 loss to Bahrain who finished third after they lost 3-1 to Afghanistan on the final day.
Only group winners automatically advanced and were be joined by the seven best runners-up in the final tournament. South Korea and Lebanon from Group A, Uzbekistan and India Group B, North Korea and Iran Group C, Saudi Arabia and Oman Group E, Iraq and Thailand Group F, Japan Group G, Indonesia and Malaysia Group H.
Jordan will be playing their 10th U20 Asian Cup aiming to repeat their best performance of finishing fourth in 2006 and advancing to the U20 World Cup in 2007. In previous Asian Cup editions, the team exited the group stages in 1977, 1978, 2008, 2010, 2018 and 2025; exited the quarterfinals in 2012 and 2023. In the past decade, they did not qualify in 2014 and 2016.
In other age group divisions, the U17 men's squad was drawn in Group D alongside Iran, Laos, Pakistan and Sri Lanka for the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers. Previously they did not qualify to the 2026 U17 AFC Asian Cup from which the top eight finishers represent Asia at the 2026 FIFA U17 World Cup. It was the fourth time Jordan fails to advance to the competition since first participating in 1985, after qualifying three times: 1990, 2010, and 2018. The men's U23 squad exited the 2026 AFC U23 Asian Cup quarters after losing to eventual and reigning champs Japan.
In the women's game, Jordan exited the U20 Asian Cup Round 1, while the senior team didn't make it past qualifiers for the 2026 Women's AFC Asian Cup which Jordan reached twice before: in 2014 as group winner, and in 2018, as host. In addition, the women's U17 team exited qualifiers for the AFC U17 Asian Cup 2026.
