Rs 26,910 Crore Data Centre, AI Hub Planned In Uttar Pradesh Phase 1 To Have 384 MW Capacity
The project, to be developed by AM Group across 114 acres in Sector 28 of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) area, is expected to strengthen Uttar Pradesh's emerging Jewar-Greater Noida technology corridor.
The first phase is scheduled to become operational in 2028 under an agreement between AM Group and the Uttar Pradesh government. The development forms part of the group's broader plan for a 1 GW high-performance computing and AI infrastructure hub, targeted for full commissioning by 2030.
In a post on X, Awanish K Awasthi, Adviser to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and former UP Chief Secretary, said,“The Phase-1 project, spread across 114 acres, involves an investment of Rs 26,910 crore with a planned capacity of 384 MW and commissioning by 2028.”
“The overall 1 GW facility is targeted for full commissioning by 2030, further strengthening Uttar Pradesh's digital infrastructure,” he added.
Part of USD 25 Billion AI Infrastructure Plan
The Jewar project is linked to AM Group's previously announced plan to establish a 1 GW High Performance Compute Hub in the Greater Noida region.
Under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Invest UP, the group had outlined plans to develop AI infrastructure with an estimated total investment of around USD 25 billion. The broader project will be developed in phases, with initial capacity planned from 2028 and full 1 GW capacity targeted by 2030.
The hub is intended to cater to global AI workloads from hyperscale cloud companies, AI laboratories and enterprises, as well as India's sovereign AI initiatives. It is also expected to provide computing capacity to Indian developers and businesses requiring access to advanced chips and high-performance computing infrastructure.
Renewable Power for AI Computing
The project is expected to rely on 24/7 carbon-free power sourced from wind, solar and pumped-storage projects.
AI computing clusters using advanced graphics processing units and other high-performance chips require substantial and uninterrupted electricity, along with extensive cooling infrastructure. Integrating renewable generation with energy storage could help improve power security while reducing reliance on conventional fossil-fuel-based electricity.
AM Group has said the hub could eventually deploy around 5 lakh high-performance chipsets. The computing capacity is expected to support applications across healthcare, energy, manufacturing, automotive, sovereign cloud, media and gaming.
