Egyptian Foreign Minister Praises Ties With Somalia, Warns Against Violating Its Sovereignty


(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty praised the significant development in ties with Somalia and warned against any unilateral measures that could compromise or diminish the country's sovereignty, during talks with his Somali counterpart on Monday.

Meeting with Somali Foreign Minister Abdusalam Abdi Ali in Cairo, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's full support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia, as well as the preservation of its national institutions.

The discussions took place on the sidelines of the 166th session of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level. During the meeting, Abdelatty noted a shared commitment to advancing bilateral relations across the economic, developmental, and investment sectors.

The Egyptian minister also emphasised the importance of cooperating with international partners to provide sustainable funding for the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia, highlighting Egypt's participation in the force. He affirmed Cairo's ongoing commitment to supporting the capacity building of Somali state institutions.

Additionally, Abdelatty requested that Somali authorities exert all efforts to expedite the release of Egyptian sailors detained off the coast of Somalia and ensure their safety. He called for the continued involvement of the Somali government in the crisis to secure the captives' freedom.
