Bihar CM Inspects Flood Relief Operations In Vaishali, Saran Distributes Cheques To Kin Of Victims

(MENAFN- IANS) Patna, Sep 7 (IANS) Amid the ongoing floods in Bihar, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary visited Vaishali and Saran districts to assess the ground-level situation and review relief and rescue operations.

The Chief Minister began his visit in Hajipur, where he conducted a surprise inspection of a flood relief camp near the old toll plaza.

He reviewed arrangements for flood-affected families, including the community kitchen and other essential facilities, and interacted directly with people staying at the camp.

During the inspection, Choudhary checked the quality of food being prepared at the community kitchen and enquired about the facilities available to the affected families.

He also visited the Anganwadi centre operating at the relief camp and interacted with the children there.

The Chief Minister also distributed ex-gratia compensation cheques of Rs 4 lakh each to the next of kin of around half a dozen people who had died due to drowning during the floods.

Essential relief materials were also distributed among affected families.

Choudhary directed officials to ensure that there were no lapses in relief and rescue operations and that all essential facilities reached flood victims without delay.

Speaking to the media after inspecting the camp, the Chief Minister said that some inconvenience was inevitable during a natural disaster but asserted that the situation was currently under control.

He said the water level of the Ganga was continuously receding, with a decline of around 17–18 cms recorded.

He added that officials and administrative teams were working diligently on the ground to provide relief and carry out rescue operations.

Choudhary expressed hope that flood-affected people would receive considerable relief within the next two to three days, following which normal life would gradually return.

He also stressed the need for continued vigilance in vulnerable areas and instructed the administration to ensure that relief supplies reached every affected family.

Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Chaudhary accompanied the Chief Minister during the inspection.

Several local MLAs from Vaishali, along with the District Magistrate, Superintendent of Police and other senior administrative officials, were also present.

The local administration had made extensive arrangements for the Chief Minister's visit, with security personnel deployed at the relief camp and surrounding areas while officials supervised both security and relief arrangements.
