Pro-Russian Links Investigated In Sweden Democrats, Which Once Advocated Leaving The EU

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Magdalena Andersson, leader of the center-left Social Democrats, said this, as reported by Politico, according to Ukrinform.

The calls were prompted by a September 3 article by the nongovernmental group Expo, which alleged that a Sweden Democrats official had promoted pro-Kremlin narratives for a decade, developed ties with a“Russian government-backed group” in Sweden, and escorted Russians into the Swedish parliament building. The official in question is Polina Malaberg, who previously held positions connected with parliamentary committees dealing with EU affairs.

Her partner, Gustav Gellerbrant, also a member of the Sweden Democrats, heads the party's Coordination Office in the government, serving as a liaison between the party and the governing coalition. Andersson argues that his relationship with Malaberg raises questions about his access to classified information.

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said that, if the allegations are confirmed, Malaberg should be dismissed.“People who promote pro-Russian narratives must not be allowed to work in the Swedish parliament,” he stressed.

For his part, Sweden Democrats leader Jimmie Åkesson announced the launch of an internal investigation and assured that the party would end its cooperation with Malaberg if her pro-Russian views are confirmed.

Andersson also warned that the Sweden Democrats' potential entry into the governing coalition could result in key ministerial posts being held by representatives of a party that had previously advocated Sweden's withdrawal from the European Union.

As reported, Andersson supports strong support for Ukraine and the use of Russia's frozen assets to finance Ukraine's needs.
