Russia Prepares Major Strikes on Ukraine’s Energy Infrastructure
(MENAFN) Russia said Sunday that it was preparing large-scale strikes against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in what it described as a response to repeated Ukrainian attacks on Russian civilian and energy-related facilities.
“Russian forces have begun preparations for massive strikes against facilities in Ukraine's energy sector in response to the ongoing attacks by the Kyiv regime on civilian infrastructure and on Russia's oil and energy complex," it said on Telegram.
The announcement comes as Moscow and Kyiv have intensified long-range attacks in recent months, with both sides targeting warehouses, commercial facilities, oil installations, ports and vessels, resulting in growing civilian casualties.
The Russian military said Sunday that its forces had struck a facility in Kyiv involved in asbestos and cement production, alleging that its warehouses were being used to store explosives. It also reported hitting a company producing drones and ammunition.
A day earlier, a Russian strike hit an ammunition depot near the Ukrainian capital, triggering a powerful explosion that reportedly killed at least 37 people.
Ukraine, meanwhile, carried out a drone operation against an oil refinery in northwestern Russia, setting part of the facility on fire, according to local authorities.
