Palestinians Affected by Tear Gas During Israeli Raid in West Bank
(MENAFN) Palestinians, including students, suffered from tear gas exposure on Monday during an Israeli raid on Qabalan, south of Nablus in the northern occupied West Bank, according to reports.
Israeli military vehicles entered the town and fired tear gas and stun grenades through streets and near schools, leaving residents, including students, struggling with suffocation.
The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said it received a report about a wounded young man in Qabalan, but Israeli forces prevented medical crews from reaching him.
Efforts were being made to coordinate with the International Committee of the Red Cross to secure access for medical teams to the injured Palestinian. The nature and seriousness of his injuries remained unclear.
The raid followed an Israeli military report concerning an alleged stabbing attempt near the Palestinian village of Osarin.
According to reports, an Israeli settler was wounded in a stabbing incident Monday morning near the Ma’oz Yehuda illegal settlement close to Osarin. The Israeli army later claimed that a knife-wielding individual stabbed the settler before fleeing, prompting a large-scale deployment of forces to the area.
The army subsequently said its forces killed the alleged assailant while pursuing him.
Meanwhile, in occupied East Jerusalem, Israeli authorities demolished three Palestinian homes in Beit Hanina, north of Jerusalem, alleging that the structures had been built without permits.
The Jerusalem Governorate said Israeli bulldozers destroyed three houses belonging to the Abu Mayala family. The homes had reportedly stood for two decades, and their demolition displaced 21 family members.
Israeli forces entered the area with heavy machinery in the morning and prevented the family from retrieving their belongings before the homes were demolished, according to the governorate.
The demolitions were described as part of an ongoing policy aimed at weakening the Palestinian presence in Jerusalem through property destruction, restrictions and other measures that leave Palestinian families vulnerable to displacement.
Palestinian, Israeli and international rights organizations have accused Israeli authorities of demolishing Palestinian homes and restricting construction permits in occupied East Jerusalem as part of efforts to limit Palestinian growth in the city. They contrast this with the approval of tens of thousands of permits for settlement housing in the area.
Palestinians regard East Jerusalem as the capital of their future state, while Israel claims both eastern and western parts of the city as its capital, a position that lacks international recognition.
