Cargo Plane Crashes at Miami Airport, Claims Five Lives
(MENAFN) At least five people are killed and another five are injured after an Amazon cargo aircraft overruns a runway at Miami International Airport in Florida on Sunday, according to local authorities.
“Earlier today, we know that the 21 Air Flight 7598 overran the runway, and now we know that five people lost their lives and five others were injured,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava.
“My heart is with all of the families who were affected,” she added.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Chief Ray Jadallah says 10 people are involved in the incident. Three of those injured are in critical condition and are transported to a trauma center, while two others are taken to a nearby hospital.
The Boeing 767-300 cargo aircraft leaves the runway after landing at approximately 2 p.m. local time (1800GMT), according to aviation authorities.
The plane had flown from Luis Munoz Marin International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico. After overrunning the runway, it strikes several vehicles and catches fire, prompting the deployment of more than 60 fire-rescue units to the scene.
