Eurostat: EU Output Up 1 Percent Annually Despite Monthly Dip

(MENAFN) The European Union's total market production index slipped 0.1% in June compared with the previous month, while the euro area posted a steeper 0.2% monthly decline, according to figures released Monday by Eurostat.

Despite the monthly dip, the annual picture remained positive: total market production climbed 1% across the EU and 0.7% in the euro area versus June of last year, the data showed.

Eurostat defines the total market production index as a composite gauge blending four short-term business indicators spanning industry, construction, services and trade volume.

Within the EU, construction and services were the primary drags on the monthly figure, falling 1% and 0.2% respectively. Trade volume moved in the opposite direction, edging up 0.3% during the month, while industrial output held steady in June.
