Netanyahu Threatens Iran as Election Pressure Grows
(MENAFN) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warns that Israel will respond with force if Iran launches an attack, as his political standing faces growing pressure ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Speaking during the Israeli government’s weekly meeting, Netanyahu issued the warning roughly 50 days before the Knesset elections scheduled for Oct. 27. His remarks come as opinion polls show declining support for both Netanyahu and his Likud party.
Israeli officials believe the prime minister is intensifying military activity on multiple fronts in an effort to strengthen his position and satisfy far-right political groups before the vote.
“If Iran makes a mistake and attacks us, it will receive a blow it cannot even imagine,” Netanyahu said. “It refrains from attacking Israel, and it knows why.”
Despite significant losses suffered by Israel following its military operations across several areas, Netanyahu maintained that the country remains in a strong position.
“Israel is stronger than ever, and its enemies are weaker than ever,” he said.
He also credited cooperation with the United States for what he described as major security gains, saying: “Together with the United States, we have achieved tremendous accomplishments in removing an existential threat hanging over our heads.”
Netanyahu further claimed that Israel and the US had “pushed back the threat of nuclear bombs and ballistic missiles,” inflicted a “major blow to the Iranian axis,” and that Tehran’s government was “approaching its end.”
