Russia To Increase Pressure On NATO's Eastern Flank - HUR Chief

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Oleh Ivashchenko, Chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (HUR), said this in an interview with Ukrinform.

“Going forward, we forecast an increase in the Kremlin's coercive pressure on NATO's eastern-flank countries to test the allies' response, demonstrate their unpreparedness for open confrontation with Russia, and intensify information and psychological influence on European countries with the aim of reducing military assistance to Ukraine,” Ivashchenko said.

According to him, violations of the airspace of NATO's eastern-flank countries-Romania, Poland, and the Baltic states-by Russian strike assets are being monitored. There has also been an intensification of military provocations near the borders of NATO countries, acts of sabotage targeting critical infrastructure in European countries, false-flag operations, cyberattacks, and disinformation campaigns.

“In this context, we can mention the incident involving a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile that struck Poland on July 30. From the very beginning of its flight, the missile's trajectory differed from that of the group of missiles launched at Ukrainian territory, which indicates that the action was deliberate. This came as no surprise to the HUR, as we have materials at our disposal that reveal the aggressive intentions of the Russian leadership in the European direction,” Ivashchenko said.

According to Ivashchenko, the aim is to test NATO's“red lines” regarding the collective defense of its allies in the event of an armed attack on one of them.

As previously reported by Ukrinform, Danish officials say that Russia is preparing sabotage operations against the country's defense industry.
