At Least 3 Dead as Russia, Ukraine Trade Overnight Drone Strikes
(MENAFN) At least three people were killed and six others wounded across Russia on Monday after Moscow and Kyiv launched a fresh wave of overnight attacks against each other, according to officials on both sides.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukrainian forces struck an oil refinery in Russia's Ryazan region along with oil-processing sites in the Perm region and the Republic of Tatarstan. In a post on X, he added that a facility allegedly used to store and launch attack drones in the Kursk region had also been targeted.
The deadliest reported strike hit Russia's Perm region, where Gov. Dmitry Makhonin said on Telegram that a "massive" Ukrainian drone assault killed one person, injured four others, and damaged an apartment building.
In Crimea — annexed by Moscow in 2014 — Russian-appointed Sevastopol governor Mikhail Razvozhayev reported that a Ukrainian drone killed two people and wounded two more. He said the drone had been loaded with explosives and metal fragments.
Russia's Defense Ministry claimed its air defenses shot down 306 Ukrainian drones across Russian territory, Crimea, and the waters of the Azov and Black Seas overnight. Ukraine's Air Force, meanwhile, said it intercepted 71 Russian drones during the same period.
On the Ukrainian side, Russian drones struck a shopping center in the Zaporizhzhia region, sparking a fire, according to Gov. Ivan Fedorov. No casualties were reported there. Ukraine's State Emergency Service said firefighters extinguished six separate ignition points across a 700-square-meter area of the complex, with roughly 40 rescuers dispatched to the scene.
None of the claims made by either side could be independently verified, given the ongoing conflict.
