Delhi Building Collapse Death Toll Rises To 5
NEW DELHI, Sept 7 (NNN-Xinhua) -- The death toll in Delhi's multi-story building collapse has risen to five, even as rescue work was still being carried out to find more victims feared buried under the debris, confirmed an official of the Delhi government on Sunday, reported Xinhua.
The building collapsed at around 1.30 pm on Sunday in the Satya Niketan area of south Delhi when repair work was underway in the basement, according to official sources.
Among the dead were a couple of students. Around six injured people were reportedly undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed distress at the mishap and condoled the deaths. "The collapse of a building in Satya Niketan, Delhi is distressing. Condolences to those who lost their loved ones. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured," Modi stated in a post on X.
