5-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Kermadec Islands Off New Zealand Coast

Wellington, New Zealand: An earthquake measuring 5 on the Richter scale struck Monday the Kermadec Islands off the coast of New Zealand.

The US Geological Survey reported that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 585 kilometers.

There have been no reports of casualties or damage so far.

The Kermadec Islands are located about 1,000 km north-east of the North Island of New Zealand and are frequently subjected to strong earthquakes. The most recent was a 5.3-magnitude earthquake in June.
