Baghdad Book Fair Draws Record Over 600 Publishers From 28 Nations
(MENAFN) The 27th Baghdad International Book Fair has drawn more than 600 local, Arab and international publishing houses and agencies from 28 countries, marking the largest international turnout in the event's history, an organizer said Sunday.
The participating nations include 17 Arab and 11 non-Arab countries, alongside various research and scientific institutions, Abdul Wahab al-Radi, head of the fair's organizing committee, told media.
He said the fair is hosting numerous cultural events, with participating publishers showcasing "tens of thousands of recent publications" across its exhibition halls.
Al-Radi also pointed to strong turnout among Iraqi visitors eager to purchase newly released titles.
He said the attendance reflected Iraqi readers' appetite for "the latest international, Arab and Iraqi publications," helping to broaden their knowledge, learning and culture.
The fair also carries "another message to the world: that Iraq is well and Baghdad is well," he added.
Al-Radi said the robust turnout underscored the importance Iraqis place on reading and culture.
The fair opened Sept. 2 and will continue through Sept. 12.
According to Al-Radi, this year's participation from 28 countries is the highest number recorded in the fair's history.
