Israel Orders Demolition of 5 Palestinian Homes Near Jerusalem
(MENAFN) Israeli authorities have ordered the demolition of five Palestinian homes north of occupied Jerusalem, giving some residents as little as 24 hours to clear out, the Jerusalem Governorate said Sunday.
One property slated for demolition sits near the Jaba military checkpoint, while the remaining four are located in the Coptic neighborhood of Al-Ram, the governorate reported.
The owner of the home near the checkpoint was given a 24-hour window to vacate before demolition proceeds, while occupants of the four Al-Ram properties were told to leave within two days.
The governorate said Israeli forces conducted 40 demolition and land-clearing operations targeting Palestinian structures across Jerusalem in August alone.
In a separate statement issued Sunday, the governorate said Israeli authorities imposed roughly 15 orders during the first six days of September barring Palestinians from entering Al-Aqsa Mosque. The additions brought the total number of such orders documented since the start of 2026 to 800 — a figure that already nearly matches the combined 23 exclusion orders logged in July and August (17 in July, six in August).
By the end of August, the governorate had recorded 785 exclusion orders since January, including 762 issued in the first half of 2026 alone. Most of those barred Palestinians from Al-Aqsa Mosque in the run-up to and during the month of Ramadan, the governorate said.
The recent spike in September, it said, reflects heavier use of exclusion orders ahead of the Jewish holiday season, which runs from mid-September into early October.
An estimated 750,000 Israeli settlers live across 194 settlements and roughly 400 outposts in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem — communities considered illegal under international law, though Israel disputes this. Rights groups and Palestinian officials report near-daily incidents of settler violence aimed at pressuring Palestinians off their land.
The West Bank has seen continual Israeli military raids and settler attacks since the war in the Gaza Strip began on Oct. 7, 2023.
