Israeli Gaza Attacks Kill 5, Including 2 Children
(MENAFN) Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip killed five Palestinians, including two children, over the past 24 hours, medical sources told media on Sunday.
In the most recent strike, Israeli artillery hit a classroom sheltering displaced Palestinians in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza, killing a 7-year-old child.
Earlier attacks saw Israeli forces target Palestinians in the Rimal neighborhood of Gaza City, killing two people.
An Israeli drone strike also hit a civilian vehicle in Gaza City earlier Sunday, killing Palestinian Youssef Aqila and his 9-year-old daughter, Wafaa. Wafaa had begun the new school year just hours earlier that day; images circulated after the strike showed her schoolbooks and supplies scattered at the scene.
Several other Palestinians were wounded in separate attacks in the Tuffah neighborhood of Gaza City and at the Shati refugee camp west of the city, with four of the injured taken to Al-Shifa Medical Complex.
At dawn Sunday, Israeli fighter jets carried out two airstrikes on an evacuated commercial building near the "yellow line" in the Tuffah neighborhood. The strikes leveled the former Al-Sakhra commercial complex and injured nine Palestinians, including residents and displaced people sheltering nearby, medical sources said.
Israeli reconnaissance drones continued flying intensively at low altitude over much of the western Gaza Strip throughout the day.
The attacks represent the latest in a string of Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement that has been in effect in Gaza since Oct. 10, 2025. Those violations have killed 1,344 Palestinians and injured 4,464 others since the truce began, according to the latest figures from Gaza's Health Ministry.
Since the start of the broader war, the Israeli army has killed more than 73,000 Palestinians and injured over 174,000, in a campaign that has destroyed or damaged much of Gaza's civilian infrastructure.
