Israeli Army Warns of Rising Tensions Across Regional Fronts
(MENAFN) Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir warns that Israel is entering a “tense and volatile period across all sectors” as its military continues operations on multiple fronts across the region.
“We are in a tense and volatile period across all sectors, and are preparing for the upcoming holiday period,” Zamir says during a security assessment involving senior military commanders as part of a sudden readiness exercise.
“The baseline posture of the entire Israeli army is readiness for a surprise attack,” he adds.
The Israeli military has remained engaged in fighting and military operations across several regional arenas since October 2023. Its campaign in Gaza has killed more than 73,000 people, while Israel has also fought conflicts involving Lebanon and Iran and carried out operations in Yemen and Qatar, alongside frequent ground incursions and artillery fire in Syria.
Zamir says the latest exercise is designed to replicate a conflict involving several fronts simultaneously. The drill assesses the military’s ability to respond at different command levels while also reviewing operational directives and contingency plans, ranging from the General Staff to forces operating on the ground.
He says the exercise is also part of preparations for the upcoming Jewish holiday season, which begins with Rosh Hashanah on Sept. 11, followed by Yom Kippur on Sept. 20 and Sukkot on Sept. 25.
