Yemeni Forces Report Heavy Houthi Losses in Taiz Clashes
(MENAFN) Yemeni government forces say they inflict “heavy losses” on Houthi fighters during intense clashes in Taiz province in southwestern Yemen on Sunday.
Government-aligned forces report heavy fighting with the Houthis in the Al-Kadhah sector in western Taiz, where the two sides engage in fierce exchanges.
The forces claim to have caused “heavy losses” among Houthi fighters but provide no details regarding the number of casualties or the extent of the reported losses.
The Al-Kadhah front holds strategic importance because it connects the cities of Taiz and Mokha in western Yemen, making it a key area in the ongoing conflict.
The latest clashes follow a broader rise in fighting between government forces and the Houthis in recent weeks. On Saturday, government forces reported making territorial gains in western Taiz and Al-Hudaydah provinces and said they had captured dozens of Houthi fighters.
Several battlefronts across Yemen have recently seen renewed hostilities as reciprocal attacks have intensified since July. The escalation has ended a prolonged period of relative calm that followed a UN-brokered truce introduced in April 2022.
The Houthis have maintained control over Sanaa and several other Yemeni cities since September 2014, while Yemen’s internationally recognized government and its allied forces hold territory across much of the country’s south, east and west.
