Yemeni Army Retakes Sites in Taiz and Al-Hudaydah Amid Houthi Clashes

(MENAFN) The Yemeni army said Sunday that its forces regained control of several sites in Taiz and Al-Hudaydah governorates following clashes with Houthi fighters that reportedly left more than 20 members of the group dead or wounded.
According to reports, Yemeni troops conducted extensive operations across multiple fronts, reclaiming strategic sites, establishing control over additional areas and thwarting attempts by Houthi fighters to infiltrate their positions.
Earlier Sunday, government forces launched a coordinated offensive along the Al-Barh front, enabling them to retake sites in Al-Kadha, west of Taiz, while also securing additional ground south of Al-Hudaydah.
The army later said it successfully blocked a Houthi infiltration attempt along the Al-Dhabab front, west of Taiz.
The clashes also inflicted considerable damage on Houthi military equipment, according to the army.
Yemeni military aircraft carried out additional strikes against Houthi sites in Al-Barh, southern Al-Hudaydah and areas on the western edge of Marib province.
Other aerial strikes targeted Houthi sites and gatherings in Al-Labanat, Al-Alam and Al-Jawf, with the army reporting substantial losses among Houthi personnel and military equipment.
Yemen had experienced a period of relative calm since April 2022, following years of conflict between government forces supported by a Saudi-led coalition and the Iran-backed Houthis. The group captured the capital, Sanaa, along with large parts of the country in 2014.
Regional tensions have grown since the Gaza war began in late 2023, with the Houthis carrying out attacks against Israel and commercial vessels operating in the Red Sea. The latest escalation in Yemen has renewed concerns that the country could once again descend into a broader conflict.
