Russia Warns Germany Over Leipzig Drone Accusations
(MENAFN) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov describes accusations against Moscow over a drone incident at Leipzig Airport as “the beginning of a real war,” sharply criticizing Germany’s response to the incident.
Lavrov argues that authorities have not established who owned the drone involved, saying that “no one bothered to investigate” its origin.
“This is basically the beginning of a real war,” he said.
Lavrov also draws a historical comparison, recalling Germany’s diplomatic measures before World War II.
“I remember that before the start of World War II, or rather the Great Patriotic War, the Germans also closed their diplomatic missions,” he added, referring to Germany’s decision to shut the Russian Consulate General in Bonn and the Russian House in Berlin.
The Russian foreign minister condemns what he describes as Germany’s approach, saying, “this kind of game is absolutely unacceptable,” and adding, “they want war again.”
Lavrov further criticizes German Chancellor Friedrich Merz over his stated ambition to develop the European Union’s strongest military, describing the objective as “a dangerous phenomenon.”
“I believe Russian leadership will draw the appropriate conclusions,” he said.
“He's essentially declaring war on us. And the lessons of history have not been learned at all,” he said.
