Belgian Mosque Targeted with Swastikas, Hate Messages

(MENAFN) A mosque in northern Belgium is vandalized with swastikas, hateful messages and dog feces in an apparent act of anti-Muslim hostility.

The Tawfieq mosque in Schelle, located in Antwerp province, is found vandalized by members of its board on Friday morning. Swastikas and offensive messages are painted across the building’s doors and windows, while dog feces are left at the entrance.

“We were extremely shocked when we discovered the message, the swastikas and dog feces at our center,” the mosque board said.

Officials document the damage with photographs before cleaning the premises ahead of Friday prayers. A police complaint is subsequently filed against those responsible, whose identities remain unknown.

Local police confirm the incident and say they are treating it seriously. An investigation is underway to determine who carried out the vandalism.

Muslim Rights Watch Belgium condemns the incident as “Muslim hatred in its purest form.”

“This is not an isolated case of vandalism or an act of ‘troublemaking,’ but a disgusting and explicit expression of Muslim hatred,” the group's chairman, Mohamed Amin Chaib, said.

The organization says it will also submit a formal complaint and calls on authorities to increase security measures around mosques to help prevent similar incidents.
