Lebanese President Decries Israeli Escalation in Nabatieh

(MENAFN) Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemns renewed Israeli attacks on Nabatieh and nearby areas in southern Lebanon, warning that strikes targeting government institutions and medical facilities represent “a dangerous escalation.”

In a statement, Aoun says the latest attacks cause civilian casualties, heavily damage a Finance Ministry building and destroy Ghandour Hospital.

He argues that the strikes go beyond repeated breaches of the cessation-of-hostilities arrangement and its related framework by hitting Lebanese state institutions, public service facilities and healthcare centers.

Aoun points to the attack on the Finance Ministry building, which follows an earlier strike on a State Security center that causes fatalities, as evidence of “a continuing pattern” in which attacks extend beyond alleged military positions to civilian government and medical facilities.

The Lebanese president accuses Israel of attempting to undermine the operation of Lebanon’s state institutions and disrupt essential services provided to the public.

Aoun holds Israel fully responsible for the continued escalation and urges the United States and the wider international community to take immediate action to stop the attacks and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
