Israel Conducts Military Drill Near Jordan Border
(MENAFN) The Israeli army says it will begin a large-scale military exercise on Monday in the Red Sea resort city of Eilat and the Arava Valley near the Jordanian border, with the drill designed to prepare forces for a potential surprise attack.
The exercise will be led by the army’s 80th Division, while residents in the area are expected to see increased activity involving security forces, aircraft and naval vessels beginning Sunday.
According to the army, troops will train for “a range of scenarios,” including unexpected attacks and attempts to infiltrate Israeli territory by air, land or sea.
The military does not give a specific end date for the exercise, saying the drills will continue “over the coming days.”
The exercise is intended to assess the protection of Israeli communities along the Jordanian border and around Eilat, while also improving operational readiness and strengthening the use of air and naval capabilities in defending the area.
The army says the drill forms part of “an ongoing process to strengthen readiness and competence and examine lessons learned from combat and security incidents in recent years.”
