Israeli Strikes Destroy Hospital in Southern Lebanon
(MENAFN) Israeli airstrikes completely destroy Ghandour Hospital in the southern Lebanese town of Nabatieh al-Fawqa on Sunday, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry.
“The Israeli airstrikes carried out this morning completely destroyed Ghandour Hospital in Nabatieh al-Fawqa,” a ministry statement said.
The ministry warns that repeated attacks on medical facilities are adding to the mounting damage suffered by Lebanon’s healthcare sector. It describes the destruction of the hospital as “another violation of protection afforded to medical facilities under international humanitarian law.”
The facility had already suspended operations about two months earlier as Israeli attacks intensified across Nabatieh and nearby areas.
According to the ministry, Ghandour Hospital had provided essential medical care to local residents during previous periods of escalation and had also served as a shelter for displaced people for an extended period.
The Health Ministry says 17 hospitals across Lebanon have sustained damage from Israeli strikes since March 2, while three medical facilities in southern Lebanon have been forced out of service.
The hospital was destroyed just hours after a series of Israeli airstrikes across southern Lebanon killed four people and wounded 20 others, based on a preliminary casualty count.
The attacks targeted several locations in Nabatieh district, including Nabatieh al-Fawqa, the Al-Rahibat neighborhood in Nabatieh city, Arab Salim and Kfar Remman.
