Qalibaf Issues Warning to US Over Potential New Attack
(MENAFN) Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf warns that Tehran will respond with greater force if the United States carries out any further attack against Iran’s security or interests.
Speaking during a parliamentary session on Sunday, Qalibaf says Iran has moved beyond what he describes as a policy of “proportionate responses,” arguing that recent military actions against US bases represent only the initial stage of Tehran’s response.
“The Americans must have understood that the era of ‘proportionate responses’ is over,” he said.
“If they have not understood it by now, they should understand before it is too late that the rules of the game have changed, and from now on, any aggression against Iran’s interests and security will receive a faster, heavier and more painful response,” he added.
Qalibaf also claims that Iranian attacks on US military positions have increased pressure on Washington. He accuses American officials of relying on artificial intelligence to create images and videos intended to present a different picture of developments on the battlefield.
His comments come as tensions between Iran, the US and Israel remain high following a conflict that began with American and Israeli strikes on Iranian territory in February. Tehran subsequently launched missile and drone attacks against US targets in several parts of the region.
Despite the continuing confrontation, Iran and the US reached a memorandum of understanding in June through mediation by Pakistan and Qatar. The agreement sets out measures aimed at stopping hostilities, restoring navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and dealing with economic restrictions.
