Cholera Outbreak Claims More Lives, Spreads Across West Kordofan
(MENAFN) At least 23 people have died while more than 310 suspected and confirmed cholera cases have been recorded in two areas of West Kordofan in southern Sudan, according to a local relief organization.
The Dar Hamar Emergency Room, a community-led aid group, issued separate warnings about worsening health and humanitarian conditions in Humeir village and Hilla Hussein, both located in Al-Udayyah locality.
In Humeir, the organization reported a “serious health situation,” saying 120 suspected cholera patients had been placed in an isolation facility, where 11 deaths have been recorded.
The facility is reportedly struggling with severe shortages of intravenous fluids and essential medicines needed to save lives as the number of suspected infections continues to increase.
The group urged health officials and humanitarian agencies to act immediately by delivering medical supplies and other essential assistance, warning that the situation could become even more critical.
Meanwhile, conditions in Hilla Hussein have also deteriorated, with the organization reporting more than 190 cholera cases and 12 deaths linked to the disease.
