MOSCOW, Sept 7 (NNN-Anadolu) -- US President Donald Trump wants to do more than end the war in Ukraine; he is seeking to create conditions for a lasting peace, White House envoy Jared Kushner on Sunday, Anadolu Ajansi reported.

Speaking at a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Kushner, who was accompanied by another US special envoy, Steven Witkoff, said future agreements should prevent a renewed conflict and allow Ukraine to rebuild and develop.

"President Trump... wanted us to convey that peace is a very, very hard and complex problem, but it's a very worthy problem worth solving. Not just to figure out how we end the current war, but how do we create the right conditions and arrangements for a long-term, durable peace," he said.

For his part, Witkoff described the talks as“very substantive.”

“We are encouraged and ready to continue working for as long as it takes,” he said.

Zelenskyy said it was important for Ukraine that Trump was currently leading the negotiations.

He also said Ukraine would like peace to be "just."

The talks between US and Ukrainian representatives are being held in two parts. The first was conducted in a narrow format, while the second will include national security advisers from Britain, France and Germany, according to the Ukrainian side.
