Zelensky Says Ukraine Expects US To Approve New Sanctions Package Against Russia
“The Ukrainian side certainly hopes that the great work and efforts of Lindsey, a great friend of Ukraine, will receive a positive response from the United States. And, of course, we are counting on these sanctions, on this package,” the President said.
He noted that during previous meetings, the Ukrainian side had received positive signals regarding the sanctions package and was awaiting a vote.
At the same time, Zelensky stressed that he does not link the issue of sanctions to the current visit of the U.S. representatives to Ukraine.
“The U.S. side did not raise this issue today, and we did not discuss it with them... I am absolutely certain that these are not related matters to our meeting,” he said.
According to the President, the visit by the U.S. team is aimed at resuming the negotiation process.
The head of state also expressed doubt that Russia seeks anything other than occupation, but stressed the need to continue diplomatic efforts.
