Ukraine, US Identify Key Areas For Further Support Zelensky

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said this at a briefing following talks with the U.S. delegation, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"We held three rounds of talks today. All of them were very substantive," he said.

According to him, the talks focused heavily on the challenges of the winter period and possible support for Ukraine.

"We devoted considerable attention today to the winter period and all the challenges that may arise. We very much hope that we will be able to reach agreements with our American partners, and we are counting on the support of our European partners," Zelensky said.

He noted that despite the possibility that the war could continue through the winter, the teams are positively assessing further opportunities.

"If the war continues through the winter, we are counting very much on the 'winter package,' which I discussed in great detail today with Steve, Jared and our European partners. We are counting on support for air defense and energy, and we are also counting on significant volumes and the ability to use American LNG," Zelensky said.

According to Zelensky, the partners support these proposals.

He thanked the U.S. for resuming the negotiation process after a pause.

"I want to emphasize the role of Steve and Jared in restoring the negotiation process today. They were in Russia. I think it would be right for Jared and Steve to talk about Russia. [...] What is important is that the American team met with the Russian president and also with me today. And we discussed all the possibilities, including the possibility of resuming the talks," Zelensky said.

According to him, a trilateral meeting of national security advisors was also held.

"We had a trilateral meeting of national security advisors. I think all sides will do everything possible to resume these talks," Zelensky said.

Zelensky said the territorial issue remains on the agenda and stressed the need to resolve such complex matters at the leaders' level.

He also stressed that the talks provided an opportunity to discuss security guarantees and Ukraine's future. According to him, these include not only security guarantees but also economic guarantees to help Ukraine recover and rebuild.

"We are talking about a prosperity plan. We are talking not only about security guarantees, but also about economic guarantees for Ukraine to recover and rebuild," he said.

Zelensky stressed that Ukraine will face a number of challenges after the war ends, including the need to maintain a strong army.

"We all understand what challenges will exist after the war ends, and we are discussing them among ourselves. We understand that our army must be strong, and this is the main security guarantee for us. And all of this requires resources... The guarantees must be strong and clear for Ukraine... We must not be afraid of any future challenges," he said.
