My Sons And Nephews Were Attacked For Refusing Extortion': Fazlur Rehman

(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said that the law and order situation in Punjab is better, but the situation is deteriorating in two provinces. He said there is practically no government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, adding that they are also being asked to pay extortion money. His sons and nephews have been attacked because they refuse to pay extortion.

Speaking to senior journalists about the political situation in Lahore, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said he had twice demanded an in-camera session of Parliament, but the request was not approved. He said neither Pakistani investors nor foreign investors are investing in the country.

He said Pakistan's trade had depended on Central Asia, but that trade has now also come to a halt. The trade of vegetables and fruits from Pakistan to Central Asia has also ended.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman said the current Parliament came into existence through rigging, while the issue of the NFC Award was also not being resolved. He said matters concerning mineral resources should be brought before the public and the shares of the federal government, provinces and the people should be clearly defined.

He said problems could be addressed through an appropriate distribution of powers among the federal government, provinces and local governments. He added that during the 26th Constitutional Amendment, they had forced the government to withdraw 35 clauses.

According to him, this was the result of consultation and cooperation between the JUI-F and PTI. He said they also formed an alliance with PTI in Parliament for a joint strategy.

The JUI-F chief also admitted that he had made a mistake regarding Mohsin Naqvi. He said he acknowledged his mistake in that matter. He added,“My thinking and Nawaz Sharif's thinking are the same; the only difference is that I am expressing it while he remains silent.”
