Customs Department Launches Unified Import And Export Control Center To Streamline Trade Procedures

Amman, Sept 6 (Petra) -- The Jordan Customs Department launched on Sunday the Unified Import and Export Control Center project, aimed at integrating regulatory operations, expediting transaction processing, and improving the business environment in alignment with the Public Sector Modernization Roadmap and the Economic Modernization Vision.

The launch event was attended by Minister of State for Public Sector Modernization Badria Al-Balbisi, Director General of Jordan Customs Maj. Gen. Ahmad Al-Akalik, Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Secretary-General Samira Al-Zoubi, alongside senior officials and representatives from partner institutions.

Al-Balbisi highlighted that multi-agency involvement in single-service delivery remains a primary challenge addressed under public sector modernization, particularly regarding redundant procedures, multiple inspection checkpoints, and duplicate documentation requirements.

She emphasized that the government must organize interagency operations so that businesses and investors receive services through a clear, integrated, and efficient track without carrying the burden of bureaucratic fragmentation.

The significance of the Unified Import and Export Control Center extends beyond co-locating regulatory bodies in one venue, Al-Balbisi explained; it fundamentally transforms the operational framework from isolated workflows into an integrated system for inspection, sampling, and customs declaration clearance.

She added that the center scheduled to begin operations in January 2027 preserves the legal jurisdiction of each agency while eliminating operational barriers, serving as a key model for the "One Government" concept.

Al-Akalik noted that unifying inspection, examination, and sampling procedures, which Jordan Customs initiated in May 2023, laid the groundwork for modernizing regulatory oversight. He described the new center as a qualitative shift toward enhancing the competitiveness of the national economy and achieving economic modernization goals.

Al-Zoubi stated that the initiative mirrors the proven success of comprehensive government service centers, demonstrating that effective public administration relies on operating as an integrated ecosystem that prioritizes user needs to save time, reduce effort, and lower trade costs.
