Customs Launches Unified Import-Export Control Centre

(MENAFN- Jordan Times) AMMAN - The Jordan Customs Department (JCD) has launched a project to establish a unified centre for the control of imports and exports, aimed at streamlining procedures, improving efficiency and facilitating trade.

The launch was attended by Minister of Public Sector Development Badriya Balbeisi, JCD Director General Brig. Gen. Ahmad Akalik, Secretary General of the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Samira Zoubi, and representatives of partner institutions.

The project forms part of the Public Sector Modernisation Roadmap and the Economic Modernisation Vision, and seeks to integrate regulatory procedures, reduce duplication and speed up transactions for traders and businesses, according to Al Mamalak TV.

Balbeisi said the centre would address challenges arising from the involvement of multiple government agencies in a single service, including repeated procedures, documents and inspection points.

"The government's responsibility is to organise work between its institutions and simplify procedures so that service recipients can access services through a clear, integrated and efficient process," she said.

She stressed that the centre would not affect the legal powers or responsibilities of participating agencies, but would provide a unified framework for coordinating inspections, examinations, sampling and customs clearance.

The centre is scheduled to begin operations in January next year and will use performance indicators, data and technology to measure its impact and support continuous improvement, Balbeisi said.

Akalik said the initiative builds on Jordan Customs' efforts to unify inspection, examination and sampling procedures, which began in May 2023.

He noted that the centre as a major step towards a more integrated and efficient system for controlling imports and exports, strengthening coordination between government agencies and supporting the competitiveness of the national economy.

Zoubi said the initiative reflected the government's approach to integrating public services around the needs of citizens and businesses, noting that greater institutional coordination could reduce procedures and save time and effort for service users.
