Egypt's FM Launches Cairo Initiative To Strengthen South-South Crisis Cooperation

(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on Sunday announced the launch of the“Cairo Response Dialogue”, a platform aimed at strengthening South-South cooperation in addressing protracted crises and supporting recovery and development.

The initiative is intended to help countries facing similar crises exchange expertise and build partnerships that preserve national institutions and capabilities while supporting investment and development efforts, the Foreign Ministry said.

Abdelatty announced the initiative at the seventh dialogue meeting of technical cooperation agencies from Islamic Development Bank member states, being held in Cairo for the first time from September 6 to 8.

The meeting brings together ministers, technical cooperation agencies, and development and financing institutions from member states.

Abdelatty said countries should move away from isolated responses to crises towards partnerships capable of delivering sustainable solutions, with greater use of the expertise and resources available across the Global South.

Development partners should go beyond providing financing to transferring knowledge and expertise, building capacity, mobilising investment, and helping countries withstand crises, he said.

Abdelatty also called for a greater private-sector role in development cooperation, citing companies' financing, technology, and innovation capabilities.

The meeting saw the signing of two memorandums of understanding between the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development and its counterparts in Tunisia and Guinea to establish frameworks for triangular South-South technical cooperation, capacity building, and knowledge exchange.

An Egyptian development exhibition was also held alongside the meeting to showcase Egyptian expertise and development solutions and connect countries' needs with potential sources of expertise and financing.
