Israeli Forces Launch Artillery Attack on Syria’s Quneitra
(MENAFN) Israeli forces shelled areas of Syria’s southern Quneitra province on Sunday, marking another reported breach of the country’s sovereignty.
One artillery round struck the vicinity of Al-Samdaniya Al-Sharqiya village in central Quneitra, according to local reports. No casualties or material damage were immediately reported.
A separate Israeli shell hit agricultural land west of Al-Mashaala village in northern Quneitra, killing several sheep that were grazing in the area, according to reports.
The latest attacks followed Israeli artillery fire a day earlier, when six shells were reportedly launched toward the outskirts of Al-Rafid town in southern Quneitra. Israeli forces also entered the town’s outskirts with five military vehicles before pulling back without making any arrests.
Earlier in the week, Israeli forces fired two artillery shells toward the area around eastern Tal al-Ahmar in southern Quneitra. Days before that, troops detained a shepherd west of Al-Rafid and released him several hours later.
Southern Syrian areas, particularly Quneitra and Daraa provinces, have faced frequent Israeli military activity in recent months. The incidents have included incursions, raids, searches, detentions and the installation of military checkpoints, according to reports.
