Israeli Forces Raid Two West Bank Schools as Academic Year Begins
(MENAFN) Israeli forces raided two secondary schools in Nablus province in the northern occupied West Bank on Sunday, coinciding with the start of the new academic year, according to local reports.
At Huwwara Boys Secondary School, located south of Nablus, Israeli soldiers entered the school grounds, confronted the administration and ordered officials to remove the Palestinian flag from the premises.
A separate Israeli force also entered Burqa Boys Secondary School northwest of Nablus. No injuries or arrests were reported in connection with the incident, according to reports.
The raids took place as the 2026-2027 school year officially opened, with 846,289 students returning to classrooms throughout the occupied West Bank. They are distributed among 2,537 schools operated by the government, private sector and the United Nations, supported by approximately 54,000 teachers.
Education Ministry figures show that 634,294 students are studying in 1,967 government-run schools, while 163,787 are enrolled in 480 private institutions. A further 48,208 students attend 90 schools operated by the UN agency for Palestinian refugees.
The start of the academic year comes amid continued violence and increasing attacks by Israeli forces and settlers across the occupied West Bank. Rural communities and Bedouin areas have been particularly affected, with schools and other educational facilities also facing attacks and disruptions.
