House Transport Committee Reviews Heavy Haul Sector Challenges
Amman, Sept. 6 (Petra) -- Chairman of the Lower House Transport and Public Services Committee, MP Ayman Badadwa, on Sunday discussed operational and regulatory challenges facing the heavy and oversized load transport sector, along with proposals to address them.
According to a committee statement, Badadwa held two separate meetings with representatives of the heavy haul sector and with truck owners and drivers of public transport and two-axle vehicles.
Badadwa described heavy and oversized load transport as an important component of the transport and logistics sector, stressing the need to address operational and regulatory challenges in coordination with relevant government agencies.
He noted that the committee is following legislative and regulatory issues affecting the sector to improve services and address obstacles to business continuity. He added that the sector provides hundreds of jobs for Jordanians and has investments estimated at around JD50 million.
Badadwa indicated that he had contacted the Ministry of Public Works and Housing to discuss challenges facing heavy haul companies and workers, as well as potential solutions. He also revealed plans for the committee to convene an expanded meeting with relevant government agencies and sector representatives to identify practical measures.
Heavy haul company representatives outlined several challenges affecting their operations, including the high cost of constructing permanent and temporary road diversions and reinforcements, delays in transport operations, and lengthy permit procedures resulting from multiple approvals. They also highlighted the need to review the technical mechanisms and regulations governing heavy-load transport routes between Amman and other governorates.
The representatives further noted that they had submitted technical and operational proposals to the committee aimed at addressing sector challenges and improving operating conditions.
