Iran Warns US Blockade Could Carry Higher Economic Costs
(MENAFN) Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says Sunday that a US economic and maritime blockade against Tehran could ultimately impose significantly greater financial losses on Washington than on Iran.
"If the US wants to inflict one dollar of economic damage on Iran, it may face several dollars in costs and losses itself," IRGC spokesman Brig. Gen. Hossein Mohibi says.
He stresses that Iran will not give in to sanctions or economic pressure, arguing that the country remains determined to withstand efforts aimed at forcing it to change course.
Mohibi says US President Donald Trump had expected American military strength, naval forces and aircraft carriers to compel Tehran to back down. However, he argues that recent developments have demonstrated that those expectations have not produced the desired outcome.
The IRGC spokesman also says the United States could face difficulties in sustaining an economic confrontation with Iran while dealing with substantial debt and growing economic competition from China and other countries.
He further claims that developments across the region are placing additional strain on US strategic reserves and restricting access to certain raw materials. According to Mohibi, disruptions affecting regional aluminum production and exports are among the factors adding to the pressure.
Mohibi concludes that economic sanctions and blockades do not automatically ensure success, arguing that such measures can instead create substantial financial and strategic costs for the country imposing them.
