Witkoff, Kushner Land in Kyiv After Putin Talks in Moscow
(MENAFN) US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and presidential son-in-law Jared Kushner arrived in Kyiv on Sunday for talks aimed at ending the Russia-Ukraine war, according to Rustem Umerov, head of Ukraine's Foreign Intelligence Service, who confirmed the news on Telegram.
The two envoys are expected to hold talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during the visit.
Their arrival marks Witkoff and Kushner's first official trip to Kyiv, coming a day after they traveled to Moscow on Saturday for direct talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov said the Moscow meeting stretched three hours and 10 minutes, covering both the war in Ukraine and possible large-scale Russian-US business initiatives. He characterized the discussion as "substantive, constructive and extremely frank."
According to Ushakov, Putin reaffirmed Russia's willingness to continue engaging with the US in pursuit of a political and diplomatic resolution to the conflict. Putin also emphasized the importance of addressing the war's "root causes" and discussed recent battlefield gains by Russian forces, voicing confidence that Moscow would ultimately achieve its objectives, Ushakov said.
Trump said Friday that Kushner and Witkoff would travel to Moscow not to introduce fresh concepts, but to deliver a concrete proposal for ending the war, now in its fifth year.
"They're bringing with them a proposal to end the war," Trump said, offering no further details.
