Kremlin Describes Putin’s Talks with US Envoys as Constructive
(MENAFN) Talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in Moscow are described as “substantive, constructive and extremely frank,” according to Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov on Sunday.
The meeting, held Saturday, lasts three hours and 10 minutes and addresses a range of issues beyond the war in Ukraine, including prospects for major economic and other projects between Russia and the United States.
Ushakov says Putin reiterates Moscow’s willingness to continue cooperating with Washington in pursuing a political and diplomatic settlement to the Ukraine conflict.
The Russian president also emphasizes the importance of resolving the “root causes” of the war. He discusses what he describes as advances by Russian forces on the battlefield and expresses confidence that Moscow will accomplish its objectives.
During the discussions, the US representatives present several proposals for potentially ending the conflict. Ushakov says they agree to consider Putin’s views during their upcoming discussions in Kyiv.
The Kremlin aide adds that Putin and US President Donald Trump will continue communicating directly, while negotiations involving the American team are also expected to proceed.
Following their Moscow meeting, Witkoff and Kushner leave Russia and prepare to travel to Kyiv on Sunday.
A White House official says the meeting forms part of Trump’s efforts to bring the more than four-year-old conflict to an end. The US envoys are also accompanied by representatives from the National Security Council and the State and Treasury departments as they discuss proposals intended to end the war.
