Iran Says Missiles Hit US Warships in Regional Waters
(MENAFN) Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says it launched ballistic missiles against a US aircraft carrier and a Navy destroyer early Sunday, claiming the two vessels were damaged and subsequently withdrew from the area.
According to reports, the IRGC Aerospace Force carried out the missile operation against the two American warships.
The Guards claim the vessels had confronted Iranian ships and were involved in a maritime blockade. It says both warships pulled out of the “engagement area” after reportedly suffering damage.
The IRGC further claims that the US military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that two Navy vessels had come under attack, presenting the acknowledgment as evidence that the operation had taken place.
The Iranian force warns that any further US military operations would result in “heavier” responses from Iran’s armed forces.
In another statement issued early Sunday, the IRGC says its naval forces also attacked a remotely operated US military vessel that was allegedly attempting to enter a protected section of the Strait of Hormuz.
